Madiz, the 20th-century yachting icon is up for sale

The world of yachting is steeped in epic tales and iconic vessels carrying centuries of history. One of these legends is the M/Y Madiz, a boat that embodies the elegance and engineering mastery of its time. With her imposing 55.40 meters, Madiz stands as one of the few survivors of the 20th century, bearing witness to all the adventures that have marked its long history.

This vessel, commissioned by James Coates Jr and designed by legendary naval architect G.L. Watson, was originally intended to serve as the mother ship for Coates’ majestic armed sailing yacht. However, its story takes an epic turn with the outbreak of the First World War, when Madiz was recruited by the Royal Navy for auxiliary patrol duties.

After the conflict, Madiz returned to her original destiny as a recreational superyacht, passing from one British yachtsman to another and among European aristocrats. Over the decades, she traversed the waters of the Mediterranean and faced the storms of the Atlantic, always maintaining her dignity and charm. Even cinema paid homage to her magnificence, featuring her in an episode of Agatha Christie’s Poirot, a request never granted to any other.

Now, after 120 years of adventure, this yacht is ready for a new chapter in its history: Camper & Nicholsons, announces its sale. Represented by senior sales broker Jean-Marie Recamier and yacht sales consultant Jessica Ruez, this iconic vessel is ready to find a new owner who appreciates its timeless beauty and rich history.

Madiz is not only a work of art, but also an extraordinary performance vessel: at over 50 meters, it is the largest classic motor yacht currently for sale. Operated by a crew of 10, it can comfortably accommodate up to 14 guests in seven luxurious cabins. Inside, Madiz retains much of her original charm, with British Victorian-style décor evoking a sense of timeless elegance.

Despite her long history, Madiz is equipped with all modern comforts. Powered by two powerful Mercedes 250HP engines, she can reach a top speed of about 11 knots and a range of 2750 nautical miles at 10 knots. Additionally, she features a full range of modern amenities and technologies, including air conditioning and state-of-the-art electrical systems.

Madiz is more than just a yacht: it is an icon of classic nautical elegance and a testament to a bygone era. Now, with an asking price of €9,750,000 VAT included, Madiz offers the opportunity to purchase a piece of nautical history. Visits are available by appointment in Perama, Greece, where Madiz awaits her next chapter of adventures yet to be experienced.
